Reiki Healing
Reiki Healing
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning universal life energy, an energy that is all around us. It was developed in 1922 by, Japanese Buddhist, Mikao Usui.
Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful method of healing, and is a safe, non-invasive treatment. Hands-on-healing is used to transfer universal life energy through the palms. This promotes self-healing and supports a return to a state of equilibrium.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki, so anyone can receive a Reiki treatment. The only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
As a natural healing system, Reiki can benefit everyone from newborn babies, to the elderly. It can be used alongside other holistic therapies and allopathic medicine. Reiki has a beneficial effect for the balance of systems, tissues and organs within the entire body. This enables improved coping mechanisms with a wide range of health conditions.
It can also help those wishing to develop spiritually, and enable them to experience a greater sense of meaning in life.
Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. It creates many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
What happens during a session?
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies, fully clothed, on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down, the treatment can be given in a sitting position. The main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. The practitioner gently places their hands, non-intrusively, in a sequence of positions over the body.
For Distance Reiki, it is much the same except you will be in one place and the therapist in another. The National Occupational Standards acknowledge that a Reiki treatment can be given in three ways: hands on the body, hands near the body, and from a distance. Recent scientific research has also confirmed that a distant treatment can be just as effective as one given hands-on. The sessions starts with a short telephone consultation with your therapist. If it is appropriate to go ahead, you will be asked to find a quiet, comfortable, dimly lit place to lie down where it is unlikely that you will be disturbed for the duration of the session. The therapist will carry out the treatment as per normal but you will be in the comfort of your own home and the therapist in their treatment room. When the treatment has finished your therapist will call or text you so that you can both share your experience of the treatment.
What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time. Recipients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Responses reported include deep relaxation – promoting a calm, peaceful sense of wellbeing on all levels. Some people feel sensations of heat and tingling, or experience seeing colours. Others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored. A treatment can feel like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.
Frequency of sessions
The frequency of sessions will be assessed and discussed after the first session. Some people prefer regular Reiki treatments, others prefer to receive Reiki as and when needed.
