What is counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy are processes in which we work together to create an open, trustworthy and supportive relationship in which issues that concern you are worked with so that you may experience more fulfilment in your life. These may relate to a specific situation you find yourself in and might be resolved to your satisfaction through a short course of counselling (e.g. 6-12 sessions over a period of weeks or months). However, if they relate to deep and recurring patterns in your biography then longer term psychotherapy may be needed (e.g. up to a year or more). It is difficult to know at the outset how long you may need and what our work together will be about. The only thing you may be certain of is that you want things to change.
How can counselling help?
Developing a relationship in which trust, respect, and confidentiality are present is central to the counselling process.
Together we can work to generate the change that is needed to heal and strengthen you. This happens in a gradual and manageable way. With time you can have the confidence to take the positive experiences from counselling into your daily life.
When struggle and crisis are supported in this way they can be used as opportunities for personal growth and development.
